Q: Do we need passports?
A: Yes.

 

Q: How do we get there?
A: Hacienda Xcanatun is 6 miles from Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan, Mexico. Direct flights are available from Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Mexico City, and Monterrey, Mexico. Continental, Aeromexico, and Mexicana are among the major airlines that fly directly into Merida from these locations. And you can get there with connections from most anywhere. Flying into Cancun is another convenient option. Cancun is a 30 minutes flight (ALMA Airlines) from Merida, or 3.5 hours by car.

 

Q: Can we drink the water?
A: Yes. Hacienda Xcanatun has a complete water purification system to insure the safety of their drinking water.

 

Q: What kind of clothes do we need?
A: All you really need are casual clothes, a swimsuit if you like to swim, good walking shoes, and a sweater or light jacket for the evenings. If you want to dress for dinner you can do so. The pathways are cobblestones or gravel.

 

Q: What activities are available at Hacienda Xcanatun?
A: Two outdoor pools, a full line of spa services including Mayan treatments, and beautiful grounds to stroll.

 

Q: Are TVs, telephones, Internet service available?
A: There are telephones in all rooms. There are no TVs in the rooms, but one is in the lounge. Your computer can be connected to Xcanatun’s Internet service at no charge anywhere on the grounds. There is also one computer available for public use.

 

Q: Anything unusual we should expect?
A: Yes! As you stroll the grounds, no doubt you will see iguana. They are fascinating and will run if you get too close, leaving you wishing they had stayed longer. And don’t be surprised if a cute little gecko visits your suite. They are harmless. Lastly, the grounds of Hacienda Xcanatun are like a small rain forest, so at night you will hear the sounds of frogs, geckos, etc.

 

Q: Do we need a car?
A: No. You can take a taxi from Merida airport to the hotel. Or we can have Hacienda Xcanatun arrange transport for you for an additional fee. If you do plan to rent a car, we advise you to get full insurance coverage.

 

Q: If we plan to rent a car do you have information on driving in Mexico?

Q: Do we need malaria shots or any other shots?
A: The CDC reports that the risk for Malaria "is limited to areas infrequently visited by travelers." As always, the use of a good insect repellent is recommended. And, as with all foreign travel, it’s advised that you have vaccinations for vaccine-preventable diseases (e.g., polio, chickenpox, measles, etc.). Check with the CDC, or refer to your doctor.
